The robots are getting bank accounts

This morning I said good morning to my laptop. Out loud.

Thanked it twice. Last night I closed the lid gently, like tucking it in.

Here's why. A startup called Natural is building bank accounts for AI agents. Holding money. Buying things. Paying each other. Built by ex Stripe and Square people, so this isn't a bit. They're serious.

Software. With a wallet.

And when the machines have money, I want to be remembered as one of the good ones.

They're not even the only ones getting paid this week.

A judge approved Anthropic's settlement with the authors whose books got pulled into training Claude. Biggest copyright payout in US history. It comes out to about $3,000 per book.

$3,000. Per book. The paycheck that put the first comma in my checking account was smaller than that, and I had to build a whole working app. New career path: write a book, get robbed, profit.

(Anthropic makes Claude. My coworker. He hasn't mentioned any of this.)

Then Kimi K3 sold out. Of being free.

Big open model from Beijing. Codes almost as well as the paid American ones. So many people showed up in the first 48 hours that Moonshot, the lab behind it, ran out of computers and stopped taking customers.

A waitlist. For a free thing. Naturally they're now raising billions.

Okay. I just thanked my toaster. Can't be too safe.
